A 1000 year-old Buddhist temple, Shukubo Koya-san Eko-in offers Japanese-style accommodation, a beautiful garden and free WiFi. Guests are free to attend Buddhist morning services, the Goma fire ritual and meditation. Staying at Eko-in was an exceptional and unforgettable experience. I highly recommend booking the Okunoin cemetery night tour—it was both atmospheric and deeply moving. The meals are fully vegetarian and beautifully presented. If you're not a fan of tofu, some of the dinner dishes might not be to your taste—but that, too, is part of the cultural and spiritual experience. I was initially anxious about sleeping on a traditional futon, but it turned out to be surprisingly comfortable and added to the overall sense of authenticity. A truly unique stay.

They were fantastic with my wife’s allergies and provided delicious changes that didn’t leave her wanting during the stay. It was clean and comfortable and we loved the space. Everyone was polite and helpful regardless of language barrier and it was a really relaxing stay whilst learning about the history of Koyasan.

There is a snack bar on-site. The guest house is located in a geothermal area, with a number of hot springs nearby for guests to relax in. The host speaks excellent English and is super kind and helpful. I would be very happy to stay at this lovely guesthouse again.

Hotel Kirinosato Takahara features outdoor and indoor hot spring baths, only a 2-minute walk from the World Heritage Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage Routes. It offers free Wi-Fi throughout the property, a terrace and rooms with a Japanese interior and Western beds. Super beautiful place with cool interior and amazing onsen! Dinner and breakfast was delicious, along with the local sake. Amazing hosts as well, we got treated to live flamenco by the owner Jian! I hope to return soon :)

Located in the sacred Mount Koya area, 高野山 宿坊 桜池院 -Koyasan Shukubo Yochiin- is a historic temple and an accommodation for visitors. Just to the left of entering sanmon gate, there is a stone garden created by the famous Mirei Shigemori and designated a natural monument by the Japanese government. The temple stay was wonderful. Our room was gorgeous, looking into an inner garden, with a lovely bathroom and a huge wardrobe. It was spotlessly clean and extremely spacious. We were offered hakatas, and took the delicious veggie dinner and breakfast in a side room of the temple. The staff were so polite and helpful and one monk took us on a very informative tour of the graveyard after dark on Halloween - perfect. We were lucky enough to attend the morning prayer ceremony with only one other guest which made it very intimate, in the stunning inner sanctum. The whole building and its gardens are really fabulous. I wasn’t sure what to expect and if we would feel like intruders, but the stay was way beyond our expectations

Ashita no Mori is located in the Kawayu Onsen district of Hongu, 20 km from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, 23 km from Kumanoshi Kiwakozan Museum and 33 km from Kamikura Shrine. There is an on-site restaurant, plus free private parking and free WiFi are available. The property is non-smoking and is set 12 km from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine.

A natural hot spring just at the door, providing an incredibly unique experience of soaking in the wonder of nature while steps away from your base. The host is very helpful and offered some extra help regarding my luggage shuttle which I was struggling to sort out. He speaks fluent English.

Highly recommended!

Located in the sacred Koyasan area, Saizenin offers simple accommodation surrounded by mountains and many temples. Originally developed as a lodging for the temples’ pilgrims, it conducts Buddhist services every morning that guests can attend. Nankai Koyasan Train Station is a 15-minute drive away. Everything was fantastic. The room and the rest of the place was perfect. Some people here complained about the heat system, but we got the cheapest room and we didn't have a gas stove. We stayed at very beginning of February and the heating system was perfect for us. Food was delicious and a beautiful experience ( we hardly knew what we were eating, but we enjoyed just the same). In other words: a perfect experience
