Brilliant service. Very flexible check-in and check-out. Good advice regarding local services. Plus we forgot something at the chalet and it was returned to us by post.

Whilst small by design, the place had everything we needed for a nights stay before heading to the Waitomo Glowworm Caves the next day (only 10 mins away). The kids loved their bunk room.
Although we didn't need some of it (we were on our last day in NZ and already had breakfast provisions which we needed to finish up), the bread, eggs, milk and drinks were a welcome sight after travelling for the day. My daughter did decide to have some eggs at breakfast and liked them - we though they may have come from the chooks next door. In our haste, we forgot to take the drinks with us but all in all it was a lovely touch.
We enjoyed spotting the farm animals next door as well.

Amazing place, very chill, nice crowd and wonderful hosts. Loved all the animals in the property, very cute. The place has a tennis court, a pool, and lots of info about different attractions in the area. Location-wise, the whole region is quite rural, but the hostel is well located close to the main village

Our tour of the Ruakura cave was great.
Our tour of the Ruakura cave was great. Our tour guide held the kids' attention the entire way and answered all of their questions. The caves are amazing to see and this walking tour is just the right length, even for young kids.
Don't forget to book ahead and take a warm top as it is quite chilly down there.

I enjoyed the peacefulness of the countryside.
I enjoyed the peacefulness of the countryside.
The have a small kitchen, with gas oven cooker, fridge.
There are two bedrooms. Double bed. and the other has bunks.
The shower is very small. Big outdoor bathtub! We stayed there as we visited Waitomo Caves the next day. We bought our own food to cook.

My first trip was 45 years ago.
My first trip was 45 years ago. In comparison back then there was no boat ride. So that was a nice way of finishing the tour. It was summer back then so there were more glow worms. So best time would be in the warmer months. We’re allowed to take photos at the very end only. Would have been nice to have been able to take a few of the caves itself without a flash as memorabilia. Also with groups going through close together it was hard to hear what our guide was saying over other guide’s voices. “Cup of tea” (John) was an excellent guide and very humorous and knowledgeable.

We booked an excursion with The Legendary Black Water...
We booked an excursion with The Legendary Black Water Rafting Experience Waitomo Caves and it was amazing! Our guides, Garret & Alicia, were fun, helpful, informative, and made sure were were safe in the cave & the water; this is is a must do! They take pictures for you because it would be impossible to float in a tube & take pictures yourself.
