Super new hotel, just opened, you can still feel how fresh it is. Room is perfect, has all the amenities needed. The location is perfect for Honfleur, super central and close to where the action is happening. The staff is very welcoming and responsive, and were kind enough to answer to our request upon booking. The bathtub in the deluxe room was a plus, and so was the balcony that overlooks the street. I recommend it for a very calm and relaxing stay.

FAQs about hotels in Normandy

Remembering the Past, Relishing the Present

Bordered by the English Channel, Normandy is a sleepy French region that sees many visitors arrive via its major seaports – Cherbourg, Dieppe, Le Havre and Ouistreham.

Between these last 2 is Deauville, home to some of the most exclusive Normandy hotels by the beach. Its pristine sands and international film festival have secured its prestige for the glitterati. The surrounding region of Calvados is famous for its cider and brandy, and Normandy also home to camembert cheese.

Calvados was also the site of the Allied landings and Booking.com has a great range of B&Bs and hotels near D-Day beaches. Caen, the Normandy capital, is a lovely city that houses the Memorial for Peace, a museum detailing the effects of conflict, and World War II in particular. North of here in Bénouville is Pegasus Bridge, while the D-Day beaches span from Ouistreham to Arromanches, home to another of Normandy’s WWII museums.

Inland is the Bayeux tapestry, a huge, hand-stitched depiction of the Norman conquest of England. Off the region’s western shores are the Channel Islands, while at its south-west corner are Avranches and nearby Mont Saint-Michel, accessed via a causeway.

Other Normandy attractions include Rouen, a historic city with colourful, half-timbered houses and an archaeology museum housing finds from the Roman amphitheatre down the Seine River in Lillebonne.

Though Honfleur buzzes with tourists even in October, wandering its quieter backstreets uncovers a softer, more genuine side of the town—warm shopkeepers, tucked-away boutiques, and glimpses of its artistic heritage. We wished more of that creative energy were alive in the mornings, beyond a few scattered galleries and studios.

I was in Deauville for the Bridge Festival, so chose the location for that reason. However, I would say that some of the restaurants in Deauville are not great value or quality and prefer to eat in Trouville where there is better choice and value in my opinion. It is all down to personal taste, obviously many wealthy Parisians and foreign visitors like to be in Deauville, for the beach and top hotels. Relative to Trouville it is quite smart, but Trouville is more lively and overall more interesting. Next time, I will stay in Trouville although it is more of a walk to the casino.

The place is magical and very special.

The place is magical and very special. Enjoyed walking around the village and also on the grounds as well. The people there were very kind and welcoming. If staying on the island itself everything does close around 6-7pm and most of the tourists leave. This is a great time to go walking around taking photos and just enjoying the atmosphere. Most places don’t open the next morning til around 10-11am so don’t expect an early breakfast. Just an fyi, if you’re taking the train and the bussing system, you’ll have to walk across the bridge to the village on the other side. It took me 40 minutes(with luggage) to get to the bus stop. The Abbey itself is beautiful and it took me about 2 hrs to get through. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I look forward to returning one day with my family.

Lovely, small seaside town.

Lovely, small seaside town. Lots of restaurant choice - our favourite was Le Clos Lupin, typical French, family run restaurant. Great cooking - we also rated Les Bel Amis amongst others. Most, if not all the local restaurants seemed to be family owned and run. No chains.

The cathedral is so beautiful as is the whole town.

The cathedral is so beautiful as is the whole town. It truly is postcard perfect. We loved the Battle of Normandy museum and learned so much about the WWII history of the town. The military cemetery and memorial to journalists are both well worth visiting. And we also did a half day D Day tour which was very good. And it was only two hours by train from Mont St Michel which is the most incredible place.

Cherbourg is dominated by a huge harbour where your ferry comes in. The town itself is long from east to west, spreading out from the harbour. From north to south it is much smaller. The harbour area and the promenades are worth walking around and the central area at the Place Charles de Gaulle is the best area to relax in. It's also the ideal town from which to see other nearby attractions, such as a D-Day beach, the Bayeux Tapestry and Mont-St-Michel, all of which I visited. One word of warning - the French railway service isn't the best. The trains are subjected to many cancellations and delays and the ticket machines in the stations frequently refuse to give you a ticket! Railway problems aside, the town of Cherbourg and other parts of Normandy are worth a holiday and I'm so glad I went.

Have been to Dieppe many times previously and love it.

Have been to Dieppe many times previously and love it. Lovely views, next to the harbour and sea, great choice of restaurants, although we are addicted to Le Tout Va Bien, which suits us perfectly. The only downside at the moment is that the main bridge for easy access to the sea front and harbour is closed. I gather work is 10 months behind schedule, and the tortuous diversion for motorists is very poorly signposted..:(
