We loved the stylish room, delicious breakfast and amazing Spa area. All we wanted is two days away from the city and a little bit of ocean. Britz is a senior citizens paradise but the hotel appeals to all (adult) ages. Everything was very thought through and there was luxury to be had at every corner. Big kudos for the Spa Bags, the friendly staff and diverse breakfast options.

To the east of the region, there is the Usedom Island, a popular spot with wide beaches and plenty of little spa towns, where the mighty of this world used to come in the old days. The German Baltic Sea region offers an abundance of bathing beaches and natural reserves, with Jasmund National Park and Western Pomerania Lagoon National Area, just off Zingst. For a taste of a more cosmopolitan atmosphere, try visiting the cities of Kiel, Lubeck and Rostock.

The hotel has extremely friendly and professional staff, from housekeeping to service they employ many people, all of them exceptionally friendly. The view onto the marina and the ocean bay beyond is spectacular, no road anywhere near. The structure seems to be solidly built - you do not hear your next door neighbour or their bathroom. The sauna is neat, looks out onto the same bay. Breakfast is served from 7 to 11 and caters to every need. The restaurant serves deliciously cooked food, including a vegan dish. Three days were expensive but singularly relaxing and refreshing.

We didn't know much about the East/West German divide so we were nervous about visiting Rostock. However, it was a pleasant, clean, safe town. We walked everywhere. There were nice parks, a wonderful museum and the St Mary's cathedral (first mentioned in 1232) had an astronomical clock that was a feat of engineering and upon striking 12 noon a procession of small wooden figures rotated around the top. We were impressed with the history of the place. The museum had a display about WWII and it was only in German, however we were able to scan large paragraphs of the display to the phone and download a German translation pack to be able to read it. We ate in several little establishments. We always got correct change back from our bills, unlike other places in Europe where you have to be really cautious with your money. I even tried the local Rostock beer!

The town is very beautiful - nature, architecture, the beach. It's just exceptional, so many places to enjoy! Restaurants are very expensive and the food is either mediocre or really bad. If you really like good food, I'd recommend purchasing products in supermarket and cook at home. Little fish shops with smoked fish is the best food this place has to offer in my opinion.

I visited Warnemünde mainly for the beach, and it was exactly what I hoped for. It’s a small town with everything you need — quiet, safe, and easy to walk around. The food is great, the people are calm and friendly, and there’s none of the noisy or unpleasant atmosphere you sometimes find in bigger tourist places. Beautiful landscapes, fresh sea air, and a relaxing vibe — just perfect for a peaceful seaside getaway.

⚠️ Warning for travelers:

⚠️ Warning for travelers: I booked Hotel Am Rathaus in Flensburg via Booking.com, but for some reason my booking date suddenly shifted — it started on the day I was supposed to leave. I contacted directly the hotel for cancelation (hotel confirmed) and after again the hotel twice by email, but they never replied at all. Now I gave them a long time to react, but the money seems lost and I lost my patience. Because of this booking error and the hotel’s silence, I ended up paying almost twice for my stay. I recommend being very careful when booking this hotel through Booking.com — this combination can be a risky and frustrating experience, especially if anything goes wrong. Sharing this so others don’t face the same situation.

Charming and relaxing beach destination within easy reach of Hamburg. The weather happened to be nice during my stay, but it looks like it would still be an enjoyable destination if the weather wasn’t so sunny or warm. Local people were friendly and welcoming, and I learned interesting things about the region. There are a variety of places to eat, catering to higher end fine dining as well as more humble restaurants. I had a beautiful meal on the deck at Restaurant Rendezvous, as well as a delicious casual meal from the little takeaway huts along the marina. Cafe Ahoi coffee is a decent coffee option, and the bakery Bäckerei Seßelberg Niendorfwas also very good. Gift shop Snabbelsnuut was great with unique and affordable good quality items locally sourced with friendly helpful service, and Lambert Studio has a great selection of lovely homewares, with friendly and knowledgeable customer service.

This is an old town in former east Germany.

This is an old town in former east Germany. It was a key port on the Hanseatic League. The Hanseatic League,[a] commonly called The Hansa, was a medieval commercial and defensive network of merchant guilds and market towns in Central and Northern Europe. Growing from Lübeck and a few other North German towns in the late 12th century, the League expanded between the 13th and 15th centuries and ultimately encompassed nearly 200 settlements across eight modern-day countries, ranging from what is now Estonia in the northeast to the Netherlands in the west, and extended inland as far south as Cologne, and Kraków, Poland. If you're interested in history this is a place to go.
