Getting inside the house was very easy. We've stayed on quite a few lodgings and this one was the FASTEST I was able to open the door! The host was very hospitable and respectful to my family. They even had a complimentary "welcome food basket"! Kumamoto Castle is about 2 km. You could also find the closest Japanese Post Office (Kyomachidai), a bento place (Obentonohiraikyonachi Daiten) and of course a 7-Eleven (all within a 5-10 min walk)!

We chose Kikuchi instead of Kumamoto, to get away from the city before our trip to Mt Aso. We got a lovely country house, but the main benefit was the lovely couple who hosted us. Super friendly and helpful. I enjoyed breakfast, my wife skipped hers, so the host packed it as a bento box for our lunch. Vegetables from the garden. A guided visit to the forest to see fireflies. Tastes of local food and drink. It was if we were lodging with my favourite aunt and uncle.

Take is very friendly. I needed help to get around the city, and he offered a ride to many places. The place is very calm, and during the night you can see the stars. Also the dinner was very traditional and delicious.
