Very remote from where the tourists are - I had a car so it was easy to access and easy to drive my big luggage up the hill. Ryokan was very spacious and had all the amenities needed (toiletries, hakata, slippers, extra bedding if needed), and the private onsen was perfect for a dip. Cleanliness was up to standards. Service from the staff was great. I had both dinner kaiseki and breakfast in the main building (only a short 1-2 min walk from my ryokan with private onsen) and it was delicious!

Has a really nice smell (unlike Beppu lol) and the temperature is perfect. There are also many different separate onsen baths which you can have for yourself for 1 hour if you ask. • Food : Overall great, standard Kaiseki meal (served in a dining room where each room is separated by a small movable wooden wall) • Staff : Very helpful and gave me the option to opt out of my room and go for a smaller one (cheaper) since my friend cancelled last moment and I ended up alone. • Location : As you can imagine, a great natural onsen is often in the countryside, you do have a bus that goes from Aso station (Kumamoto) all the way to Hakata station (Fukuoka) which stops by Kurokawa which is helpful. The ryokan's staff also pick you up at the bus stop if you inform them of your arrival time.

The property is around 25 km from Beppu Station, 36 km from Oita Station and 500 metres from Yufuin Chagall Museum. The hotel has a hot spring bath, luggage storage space and free WiFi throughout the property. Food was wonderful, such a great quality of ingredients, so filling, and totally worth it for the price. The place was amazing and calm, and both the private bath, and the family one was clean, comfortable and great. The location is really close also to the lake, and the main street to explore during the day. Futon was really comfortable, and they provided a kotatsu since it was really cold outside. It was a dreamy traditional japanese stay.

Very nice staff, amazing experience, opportunity to do an onsen in privacy.

The room was even better than the listing pictures suggested, the staff was so kind and helpful, and we felt very well taken care of. We had a slight issue figuring out how to keep our onsen hot and it was fixed right away. I completely recommend staying here. Every room has its own private bath, and all the rooms are separate buildings. It’s so private and relaxing. We accessed the property with a car and it was incredibly easy. We didn’t opt for the kaiseki dinner, but breakfast was fantastic!

Ideally situated in the Yufuin Onsen district, this hotel provides a spa and wellness centre, as well as a hot spring bath. The property is non-smoking and is located 25 km from Beppu Station. This is THE best place in Yufuin. It was really easy to check in. Yes it's a bit further away from the city centre which makes it a bit more difficult to get to if you don't have a car (you can walk it or take a taxi up there) but it has the most epic view of the mountain. There are two onsens that everyone at the hotel can use, but they are effectively private as once you are in them you lock the door and you can have them to yourselves. The water is fantastic. Refreshing and makes you feel very relaxed. I would stay here at the drop of a hat again. Also make sure you walk up to Oogosha shrine (only 5 mins away) where you can get the experience of visiting a HUGE cedar tree temple and a bamboo forest that is 10x better than Arashiyama.
