高野山 こころの寺子屋リトリートハウス -Koyasan Retreat House IKKOSHO is gelegen in Koyasan, op 37 km van Kishi en 44 km van Matsushita Park, en biedt accommodatie met gratis WiFi en toegang tot een tuin. Dit gasthuis was een fijne plek om te overnachten. Een zee van rust en een ruime kamer met enorme bibliotheek in een prachtig oud huis. De eigenaar geeft meditatiesessies 's ochtends om 06u en is erg vriendelijk. Hij is gemakkelijk via de Booking-inbox te bereiken en reageert daar adequaat op.

みなみ野フィールズ不動坂 ligt in Nachikatsuura, op 10 km van Nachikatsuura Sports & Cultural Center en 11 km van Hirou Shrine, en biedt een terras en airconditioning. De omgeving is prachtig en ook de host is heel aardig! Er zijn van allerlei faciliteiten als een keuken met elektrische kookplaat en ook een wasmachine. Echt een mooie houten bungalow voor een avontuurlijke overnachting.

Koguchi Village by WhyKumano bevindt zich in Shingu op 23 km van Kumanoshi Kiwakozan Museum, en biedt accommodatie met airconditioning en gratis WiFi. This accommodation provided breakfast AND dinner - dinner! - so it was truly a unique gem. The food was fantastic - dinner was a choice between curry rice and bamboo steam rice (which I opted for - it was so delicious and healthy). Breakfast was a selection of fruits, bread, jams, cereal, yogurt. Perfect for fueling for the day ahead. Location was also very close to the trailhead. It was a shared space, and I appreciated that they had a lights-out timing which allowed everyone to rest.

Taraichitei, een accommodatie met een tuin, ligt in Takashima, op 28 km van heiligdom Kehi Jingu, 34 km van Omimaiko Beach, en 40 km van station Obama. It is an old style house, so as long as you aren't expecting Western/modern comforts, it's fantastic! My daughter called it the Totoro house. You will sleep on Japanese futons that you lay out on the tatami mats - if you've never slept on a futon it might feel uncomfortable/hard compared to Western beds. You will eat sitting on the tatami mats, but there are a couple of small Western chairs if sitting on the floor is difficut. The bathroom is Japanese style with the toilet in one section, the sink/vanity in a second section and the shower with separate furo (deep bathtub for soaking after washing in the shower) in the third section. It was not the most modern but all clean and more spacious than the Western hotel bathrooms we had other parts of Japan! There is a TV, wifi worked great and a bluetooth speaker to play music. There aren't a lot of "tourist" attractions nearby but it you want serenity this hits the spot - a few steps away has you walking among farming fields and the house is also close to the forest with a little stream running along side the road making for a peaceful but easy walk up the mountain. The gohan (rice) cooked in the old style stove was the best we ate our entire trip! Wish we had bought some of the local rice. It can get a little smoky when dinner is being cooked but my mild asthma was fine. The host, Hiro, is amazing, super accomodating and friendly, he introduced us to his shiba inu (dog) and his duck, and even though we didn't ask ahead, he prepped for us to make tofu - this experience was an extra fee but totally worth it! During the winter you can also request mochitsuki (pounding rice into mochi) and summer/fall you can make noodles (can't remember if he said soba, ramen or udon). Hiro's English is limited, but he's so engaging, we asked him to eat dinner with us and my daughter loved that...he has such good energy!

Yadori Onsen Iyashinoyu bevindt zich in Hashimoto en biedt gratis WiFi, een gedeelde lounge, een terras en een restaurant. The Onsen! It had private hours for inn guests. I also appreciated the clean, modern cabin. Yusuke and the whole staff were extremely helpful and accommodating, even offering a shuttle to and from Koyasan twice per day. Beautiful valley. there is a bridge that allows you to get down to the rivers edge to enjoy the water.

Tamayura no Sato in Kimino biedt accommodatie met uitzicht op de bergen, een seizoensgebonden buitenzwembad, een tuin, een terras en een restaurant. This was a nice place away from the city. They have bbqs where you can grill outside of your cabin. Comfortable cabins close to some cool stuff to see. Friendly staff.

Mountain Home Lodge in Deer Park bevindt zich in de wijk Nara Park van Nara, op 3,3 km van station Nara en 20 km van Iwafune Shrine. Er is gratis WiFi in de hele accommodatie. De locatie is top! Midden in het park met de hertjes voor de deur en vogeltjes die fluiten. ‘S Ochtends vroeg ben je als eerste in de tempels.

Fukurou bevindt zich op 3,3 km van Shionomisaki Shrine, en biedt accommodatie met gratis WiFi en gratis privéparkeren. I really enjoyed the private access Onsen, available to sign up once a day. Perfect after biking around Kushimoto all day—I rented one of their electric assist bikes which made going up and down the local hills easier. Complete with helmet and cell phone holder. The room was very spacious and comfortable.

Fiore Shima ligt in Shima in de regio Mie, op 5 km van het dorp Shima Spain. Het beschikt over een seizoensgebonden buitenzwembad, een barbecue en een terras. The rooms are very spacious, clean and comfortable with great amenities. We took our dog and there were bowls and bedding provided. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we were made to feel very welcome. The pool area is great with lots of seating and is open from 8am-8pm so you can enjoy morning and evening swims. We have stayed twice now and I would definitely recommend it.
