Why not do something different and stay in a Double Decker in Queenstown! Did you know there are only 3 in the whole of NZ and this is one of them?
This little lady is a wee bit special as she used to do overland trips for a company called 'Top Deck' (competitor to Contiki) for years and has been to places like The Vatican City, Bulgaria, Romania, Morrocco and even Russia, to name a few. She used to take 22 passengers upstairs in bunk beds and the kitchenette was downstairs. Apon her retirement my husband who used to be the Ops Manager elected to ship her back to his homeland - NZ - where she sat on the farm for years before being retro-fitted for family camper use.
As the kids have gotten older and needing less time away, we've elected to BnB it! Upstairs hosts a comfortable double bed (with electric blanket) and lounge area with leather lounger. The front seats at the top front make a great spot to have evening drinks as you watch the sun set over the mountains.
Downstairs we have a kitchenette with microwave & electric plate, a fridge/freezer, tables to enjoy take-outs from our local top restaurant (The 11th Avenue) literally at the top of the gravel path next to the property (walking distance) or fish/pie and chips from the local Night and Day if you don't want to cook!
The decker also boasts her own shower with a dual flush toilet, with complimentary towels and toiletries.
If you happen to be in Queenstown to get a day procedure at the Southern Cross Hospital, that literally is on our back fence, again, walking distance up the gravel path.
With regards to transport - we are spoilt for choice having 2 bus stops - one at the top of the gravel path and one just around the block from us. Free parking is available typically on the street or we will make space for your vehicle on our driveway.
For those who are active among us - we are biking/driving/walking distance to Kawarau River track.
So why not join us - we'd love to have you stay?!
Paul and Victoria Ludemann have resided in Queenstown since 2001 (so almost locals!). Paul, originally from Oamaru ventured to London where he was Operations Manager for Top Deck Tours where he met his wife and promptly shipped his 2 most priced assets home to New Zealand! (You can tell who wrote this bio! ;)).
Having elected to settle in Queenstown to have their family and having done some good trips around NZ, the kids are now less inclined to camp with the folks as they get older so it was decided to share this amazing and unique treasure with visitors who may share the same passion for vintage vehicles or who just appreciate something a little bit different.
It also reverts the Decker to back to her former glory - to days hosting people who love to travel and enjoy life! And what better place to do that than in Queenstown?!
Decker Daze is located right that the bottom of the gravel walking/bike path where you can find The 11th Avenue Restaurant (outdoor pizza oven and great Buddha Bowls if that's your thing), with a bar at the back leading out to a small garden. The Night and Day deli is also ideal for fish and chips, hot pies and a small selection of groceries (milk, beer, wine, etc). There's also a hair salon and pilates studio for those who have time!
Decker Daze is round the corner from 2 bus stops and is also ideally suited as it's 13 minutes drive to the old gold mining village 'Arrowtown' which is great for shopping and pottering or if you wish you could have lunch at Amisfield Winery (6 mins drive), Ayrburn (10 mins) which has a couple of good restaurants and Millbrook Resort (14 mins).
5 Mile Shopping Center is 7 minutes drive on the SH6 across the bridge where you will find Kmart, a Countdown, coffee shops and a full street around the corner from Kmart with a number of fast food outlets (Subway, St Pierres, Sallys Pizza and The Coffee Club).
Queenstown Central is 21 minutes drive on SH6 where there are a number of shops and restaurants plus activities that can be enjoyed.
Queenstown has a number of great activities from lake cruises, to going on the gondola and doing the luge to scenic flights. You definitely won't get bored!
