Neighborhood info

The Navigli are one of the most fascinating areas of Milan. Canals were artificially built between the 12th and 16th centuries throughout Milan to provide access to water and to transport goods around the city. However, most of them were covered during the fascist era, leaving only three canals, two of which are connected by the 'Darsena' in Piazza 24 Maggio (right next to the flat). The district is now the centre of Milan's nightlife. Along the canals there are dozens of bars where you can have a suggestive aperitif at sunset. Along the canals there are also many hidden 'pearls', such as the 'Vicolo dei lavandai', where the Milanesi went to wash their clothes in 1900, or the 'Chiesa di Santa Maria Delle Grazie al Naviglio', half destroyed by fire in 1800 and never completely rebuilt.
