The view from the house over Miklavatn is very beautiful and a fishing license for the lake can be purchased from the residents. A great and varied birdlife is by the lake. A boat and two “sit on top” kayaks can be rented from the residents at Brúnastaðir. A Mini Zoo is within a short distance of Brúnastaðir where all the major Icelandic farm animals can be found. It is open in the summertime.

We are a family of six here at Brúnastaðir farm: Stefanía Hjördís Leifdóttir and Jóhannes Helgi Ríkharðsson and our four children - Ríkey Þöll, Kristinn Knörr, Ólafur Ísar and Leifur Hlér. Additionally the family includes on average three foster children at any time as well as hosting intern students from the Agricultural school in Greenland. In addition to running accommodations for travellers, we keep around 850 sheep, making the autumn a fun time when we herd over 2000 ewes and lambs from the mountains. On our farm you can find most kinds of Icelandic farm animals: goats, cows and calves, piglets, rabbits as well as horses, dogs, cats and several breeds of hens. Some of these animals are working animals but all of them are family friends. In the summers we like to plant trees and over the years we have planted over 70.000 trees in an area of 32 hectares.

Tröllaskagi´s nature is magnificent and unspoiled. It is known for its great blueberry and black crowberry harvest in the autumn. Great hiking trails are in Fljótafjöll, where you can for example hike in one day to Siglufjördur, Ólafsfjörður and Héðinsfjörður, along with countless other spectacular trails, short and long. Siglufjörður and Ólafsfjörður offer whale watching, and guarantee that whales will be seen, along with spectacular view of the country from sea. The area is known for ample snow during winter and is therefore ideal for mountain skiing and snowmobiling. A short distance is to the ski area in Siglufjörður and about an hour drive to the ski area Tindastóll in Skagafjörður.
