We had a wonderful stay at Worthy Manor. It's a beautiful property a few minutes walk from Porlock Weir. Communication from the owner was excellent, including advice on booking for dinner and walking routes. The room was fabulous, we enjoyed the...

A delightful property, we had the whole of the top floor to ourselves with views of the sea in the distance. A little pricey for two but 4 people could stay here which would have brought the price down. The four poster bed was a real feature and...

Atmospheric and historic building with quality fixtures and furniture and exactly as described. Interesting artwork. Short walk to Porlock weir but wouldn’t want to walk to Porlock village along the narrow road.

Unforgettable place, like walking into an old french castle. The bed was without doubt the most comfortable I have ever been in, I had the best nights sleep EVER. Totally silent yet you can walk through fields to a pub and the sea. Wish we could...

A "manor" by history... Amazing wooden doors and old beams and a little library and big garden that you can go on in. At the booking stage, you can choose one or two double rooms from the "suite" which are both located in a separate corridor...

We ADORED pretty much everything. The age, location and parking at the property and mostly our splendid main bedroom. We always chose a room based on having a roll top bath as our preference. Having a working log burner was an amazing addition. We...

It’s a lovely room in a romantic setting. There are several short walks that get you down to the beach where there is a small shop, good pub and excellent coffee house doing good full and alternative breakfasts. Great base for hikers.

We loved our stay at Worthy Manor. The room is huge and the bed is as amazing as it looks. There are great walks along the coast path in both directions and a short walk to Porlock Weir for food & drink.

Situated directly on the South West Coast Path ( Salt Path ) 10 miles from the start in Minehead and booked by walkers from all over the world, Worthy Manor is a romantic and utterly peaceful 16C coastal manor house, the only sounds the wind in the trees and the waves on the beach. So simply relax and enjoy all that Worthy has to offer - the open fires, the sea views, the eclectic artworks, the library, the gardens ; plus, but a short stroll through the fields, the delights of one of the UK's prettiest and most unique harbours, Porlock Weir, with its famous Bottom Ship pub, hotel, galleries and eateries. Comprising the guest wing of the Manor, the Lovelace Suite ( named in honour of computer pioneer,Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron, who spent her wedding night at Worthy) offers absolute privacy. Accessed by way of a discreet door [ lockable] in the Dining Hall, on entering the suite guests ascend a private spiral staircase (look out for the Priests Hole on the left) to the first floor where they will find the principal bedroom, a bathroom and a shower-room. With its with its vaulted ceiling, in-room roll top bath (and separate WC,) sea views on three sides and original artworks, the bedroom is a feast for the eyes. In the summer airy and sunlit; in the winter, the woodburner lit, warm and cosy. In addition to the facilities within the principal bedroom the suite is served by an additional private bathroom [ bath with hand shower and loo] and shower-room [ shower and loo].
Brought up in south London, I first came to Exmoor and Porlock as a child. Later I moved to Bristol and divided my time between Bristol and Exmoor before finally settling at Worthy where hardly a day goes by without my reminding myself how lucky I am to live in such a beautiful place. I have spent the last many years working in the Arts sector, raising money both here and abroad, usually for large capital projects, for theatres, venues, festivals, orchestras, and the like. Its tough at times, but rewarding and most importantly, it's fun ! And between times I do a bit of writing, meaning long spells sat staring out the window , interrupted by the occasional burst of inspiration. Plus I am a keen salmon fisherman and have had my moments on the local rivers [ Lyn, Barle, Exe ] Anyway, I am happy to welcome you to Worthy. If you want to be left entirely to yourselves, that's fine. If you like to chat, that's fine too. Your call. Any questions, do please be in touch...
Worthy Offers direct access to the 600 mile Southwest Coastpath and to the myriad footpaths of Exmoor's heather clad hills, lush valleys and tumbling streams. To the east lies the 15000 acre National Trust, Holnicote Estate with its picture postcard villages of, Bossington, Selworthy, Luccombe and the like; while to the west, whether by foot or by road, the 10 mile route along the cliffs and hills to Lynmouth is breath-taking. The beach below the house is stony - great for rockpooling. Nearest sandy beaches are Minehead&Dunster [20 mins]. The north Devon beaches of Woolacombe, Saunton, Braunton are just over an hour by car] Porlock Weir harbour is a 7 minute walk through the fields and offers decent pub, a hotel, a gourmet Italian restaurant plus cafes and galleries. The walking on Exmoor is superb. The Adventure Centre at the Weir offers mountain bike, paddle board, surfing hire and there are a number of riding centres. Trout and salmon fishing is available on the rivers Exe, Barle and Lyn, plus Clatworthy reservoir [ very quiet and beautiful].
