Situated on the Isle of Cumbrae this spacious 1st floor holiday apartment is situated only 100 yards from the water's edge. Millport has several a beautiful sandy beaches, with tropical palms fronting the promenade and yachts moored out in the sheltered bay behind the new break water. From here you can explore the appeal of a seaside town with café’s, shops, bars and restaurants. Millport is also the home of Europe’s smallest cathedral and Britain’s narrowest house.
We live on the magical Isle of Cumbrae with a smallholding with Pygmy goats, ducks and chickens, which guest can come and meet by arrangement.
The Isle of Cumbrae, also known as Great Cumbrae, lies on the Ayrshire coast and is roughly four miles long and two miles wide. The circumference of the island is very much up for debate with many people not managing to settle on an exact distance however it is measured without argument as 10.25 miles (16.5km) round (if you go left or counter clockwise). If however you use modern technology and plan my cycle it says 9.9 miles.
For active people, Cumbrae is an ideal location for cycling, walking and beautiful 18 hole golf course, as well as a bowling club with putting green. There are bouncy castle, trampolines and crazy golf along the front. On a rainy day, there is much to do, with a model railway club, craft centre and museum at the Garrison, amusements and a library.
Check the Paddle Steamer Waverley's time table as she frequently stops at Millport and Largs for a day trip out on the seas on the last sea going paddle steamer.
The island is just a short ferry trip of under 15 minutes from Largs, this has allowed Cumbrae to become regarded as Scotland’s most accessible island.
The only settlement is Millport, a seaside town with a Victorian promenade which curves around an attractive hilly bay on the south coast. Millport is home to Britain’s smallest cathedral, the Cathedral of the Isles, which was completed in 1851 to a design by William Butterfield, one of the leading Gothic revival architects of the day.
There is a fantastic golf course, cycling, walking and great marine wildlife.
