Our vacation in Japan was filled with nice people but the owner of this house was the nicest and friendliest in the whole country. We really felt so welcome and everything was made available to us to make our stay wonderful. The owner went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and at home. Cooked us a delicious breakfast even though it wasn’t included in the price and drove us to the station (only 5 minutes walking) so we could definitely catch the bus/train. Very clean house, comfortable futon beds and working air conditioning. All in all we had a fantastic stay at an authentic Japanese home and can only recommend Arai house. If we ever have the chance to come back to Nikko we would definitely stay here again

Very friendly and eager to help us with everything we needed. We had not chosen to have diner there (bad decision because I believe it must have been amazing) and they suggested to make a reservation for us at an excellent restaurant nearby. The breakfast was served in a very cosy and homey feeling living room and it was a classical western style with eggs, bagels etc which was exceptional! I have nothing but wonderful words to say about this experience. Totally recommended! I would like to revisit and spend more time there. Thank you for everything

Yoshi-san and Rie-san are fantastic hosts, who go to great lengths to make your stay as comfortable as possible and keep the guest house impeccably clean. Yoshi-san was so kind and shared restaurant recommendations, information regarding attractions and even took us guests on a great hike to a waterfall. The room was very clean and warm even during winter, and the beds very comfortable. The shared facilities are also exceptionally clean, and amenities are provided. The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped with anything you need, and the communal area is stocked with free drinks and snacks. Indeed, spending my evenings there and hanging out with other guests and Yoshi-san were the favourite parts of my stay. He's an excellent conversation partner and a very curious person, the hours flew by in an instant. At the end of my stay, he even took a few fantastic portrait photos for me to take home. Thanks again for everything, Yoshi-san!
