Takano-san is incredibly generous and very caring. I was coming back from a music festival and wasn’t sure if there were taxis operating from Echigo Yuzawa Station so I intended to do a 75-minute walk back, and she told me she was willing to pick me up. Fortunately, there were taxis making runs at 1am so I was able to make it back safely. I immensely appreciate her gesture.

Temple stay 玉林寺 is voorzien van kamers met airconditioning in Sado. Je kunt er gebruikmaken van een tuin. Alle units bij het pension hebben een waterkoker. Everything about this place was charming. A wonderful experience to stay at a temple, and the hosts were so lovely.

Baco Myoko Akakura bevindt zich in Myoko, op 34 km van Zenkō-ji Tempel, en biedt een gedeelde lounge, rookvrije kamers, gratis WiFi in de hele accommodatie en een bar. AMAZING! Traditional Japanese place with big rooms (we were 4 adults and we were perfectly comfortable). Bathrooms are shared but very clean. Ai (the host) was super nice and we had a great time. The position is perfect, the place is 1 min away from the ski rental shop and 5 min from the slopes. All the bars and restaurants are less than 5 min walk. If I come back I would stay here again. I totally recommend it.

Writing this review is a double edged sword, I believe everyone visiting Yuzawa should stay here but I fear I’ll never be able to secure a reservation here again. Incredible food, perfect for vegans, vegetarians and coeliacs (gluten free). The coffee is better than Melbourne’s. Location is smack bang in the middle of everything. Hospitality better than every 5 star hotel I’ve seen. Local knowledge and guidance is superb. You could not wish for a better experience.

This was one of the best stays I’ve had in Japan. The lodge is very cosy and clean, and in the most convenient location if you’re planning to ski. It is right next to Shiga Kogen Ski Resort, and there is free shuttle bus that takes you to GALA and Ishiuichi in just 10-20 mins. Mina and her mum were wonderful hosts, warm and very helpful. They really took care of us and were so hospitable ☺️ The cafe downstairs is fantastic. Highly recommend having breakfast there. It is simple yet delicious, taste of Japanese home cooking. Desserts are quite special and a must try!

古民家宿Tani House Itaya bevindt zich in Tokamachi, op 13 km van Skiresort Gala Yuzawa en 37 km van Naeba skioord, en biedt accommodatie met een tuin, gratis WiFi en gratis privéparkeren. Amazingly charming historical house, maintained by owner with lots of love for every tiny detail. It was a place I’ve never been but I felt melancholic, absolutely a fantastic place to stay. Pity that we spent only for 14 hours in the house.

Dave and Lisa are so easy to deal with and made us feel so welcome that we turned our 2 day trip into 7! They made our trip so convenient from picking us up and shuttling us to/from skiing and the train station, to booking us suppers at the best restaurants, spas and onsens and day trips. Do yourself a favour and stay here, you will not regret it!
