MexicoI really enjoyed my stay with Nancy and her sweet family! The space is a lovely two story wood cabin (independent from the family home) with a patio area that opens to the treetops of the surrounding garden. There is lots of foliage and many birds to admire, especially in the morning. The bedroom is quaint with a comfortable bed and effective mosquito net, the cold water shower is a relief in the hot climate, and there is a sink, small stove, purified water, and basic kitchen utensils to prepare simple meals. I also enjoyed the shared living areas, with lots of seating, a table, laundry line, and ample floor room to do yoga. The location is at the edge of town right off a main road, which means plenty of peace and quiet in the night, but at the same time it is easy to catch a passing motortaxi. Nancy was very communicative, which made my arrival and learning about tourist attractions in Tingo Maria a breeze! I was shocked to see so few foreign tourists in this charming town closely surrounded by hundreds of kilometers of pure jungle, including the incredible national park, Bella Durmiente. It is truly a magical place, a treasure chest for anyone who is passionate about nature! Just a 7-10 soles motortaxi ride or a 30 minute long walk, and you find yourself in the midst of a breathtaking tropical paradise! Definitely visit the awesome nocturnal, fruit-eating birds (the guácharos that only exist in this region of Peru) in surreal la Cueva de las Lechuzas; hike to Cascada Gloria Pata; and take a refreshing dip in the river at peaceful Playa INTI where you can also see toucans and the magnificent Piedra Flotante. It's an amazing destination - highly recommended!
