The hosts were super friendly and welcoming. The guesthouse has a nostalgic flare, lots of wood, great atmosphere. We had ordered a veggie dinner and breakfast, and all was home made and good. We arrived after dark and after hours of rain on our motorbikes, and the hosts let us dry our gear in the main room which is much appreciated. // Our host also told us about the mountain road ahead which is forbidden for motorcycles. We were gutted but very happy he told us so we could plan our next day accordingly. // I would certainly stay again!

What an absolute gem of a place! Machiya Guest House Carta is set in a beautifully preserved 19th century wooden house. You travel back in time as soon as you set a foot in. The zen garden, beautifully furnished common areas and large bedrooms fill you with peace. You can feel that much love and care has been invested into this place to make guests feel comfortable and welcome. The owners were such lovely people, and so very helpful. Each of their recommendations was spot on. The location is great too, in a quiet area of town but a short walking distance to a host of great cafes, restaurants and trendy shops. The guest house is also well connected to all the main sights (including train station) thanks to the loop bus, a short distance away. If you're lucky enough to find this place available, don't hesitate. Staying there was such a privilege. I couldn't think of a better place to sip in the tranquil and cultured atmosphere of this beautiful city.

I had an amazing stay! The hosts are absolutely lovely, so friendly and always ready to help with anything. The breakfast was the highlight, so delicious that I ordered it for two consecutive days! The hostess is amazingly kind and friendly. Many thanks for that. Very helpful and replies quickly with good information. Besides that, the hostess speaks English very well. The house gave me a lovely authentic traditional feeling. The space is very big in my opinion and has lots of appliances. Most of the things have English instructions with them. Besides that the house is very clean. There is a bus stop very close to the house, but most of the things are within walking distance for me.

Wanted to experience a machiya while visiting in Japan, and thought that Kanazawa would be the best place to do it. Ui-ca guesthouse exceeded my expectations—the house itself was very tidy, well-kept with updated fixtures, yet still retained all the charm of an older structure. Everything was beautifully decorated, and the house was so thoughtfully furnished—our family's stay was very comfortable. The host, too, was exceptionally kind and a wonderful communicator, offering to help us with our luggage (of which we had a lot) and even giving us a ride our first day out on her way home. Thank you so much for a great stay~~ next time I come to Kanazawa, would definitely love to stay here again!
