Our rooms are designed with traditional Japanese aesthetics, featuring tatami mat flooring throughout. For those who prefer a futon on tatami or a bed, we also offer Japanese-Western style rooms. The warm ambiance is further enhanced by local artists' paintings adorning the walls. We went as a group and we loved the ryokan. It was very spacious, everything was very clean, and it was conveniently located near the bus station, the train station, and the city center where most of the shopping takes place. The rooms were the most spacious we stayed in throughout Japan, and the staff were all very kind. I would definitely stay here again.

Just a 2-minute walk from Takayama Station, Oyado Koto No Yume offers Japanese-style rooms with a colourful touch. The hotel features hot-spring baths, a restaurant serving breakfast and free WiFi throughout the property. This ryokan is introduced in Michelin Green Guide Japan. Location was exceptional - great base for exploring. The staff were all very helpful. We loved their restaurant recommendations and that reservations were made for us. Breakfast was also a positive experience - we tried all three options.

Located just a 1-minute walk from popular Miyagawa Morning Market in the heart of Takayama, Sumiyoshi Ryokan offers homely Japanese-style accommodation in the historic townhouse building. Free WiFi is available at the lobby and guestrooms. This hotel was selected as one of the Top 25 B&Bs and Inns in Japan by TripAdvisor's Travelers' Choice Award 2015. The place felt like a true japanese Ryokan, very well attended by an old couple, extremely kind and taking care of every detail. Even if their english was limited we could communicate quite well. Stayed at a room with private bathroom looking over the river, which was quite spacious. The japanese dinner was incredible, several dishes all just home cooked, served at a private dinning room with view of the garden. For the breakfast we were allowed to choose the continental instead of the japanese that was better for us. Being a Ryokan, we slept on a fouton on 5he floor, however, to make us more comfortable, the old lady laid the fouton over a doble slim mattres that showed amazing diligence to make guests feel well.

Located in the centre of Takayama Historic District, Ryokan Tanabe 旅館田邊 is one of the most historical ryokans in the city. It features Japanese-style rooms and free WiFi in all areas. Guests can request relaxing massage treatments or soak in the indoor and outdoor hot-spring baths, which are made of rocks and cypress wood. Everything really. The staff is so helpful (I asked for the ingredients of a sauce we like and they printed us a recipe, how cute). We have a massage there. So good. In your room and even good value. Dinner is in your room and they make your bed after. In the middle of town. Amazing place !

Free pick-up shuttles are available from JR Takayama Station, a 3-minute ride away. Free WiFi is available throughout the property.

Authentic Japanese set meals are served for breakfast and dinner. Perfect location!only 100m to ancient street. Big room, high-level service. Accomodate there, you could not only enjoy the hotspring in this hotel, but also other two in sister hotel (can birdview the town) and sister SPA (traditional Japanese-Style). Hotel restaurant is Michelin-recomended, as a foodie, I even think its Kaiseki quality is higher than some 1-star restaurant. Really appreicate my service staff Taki, a lovely girl, gentle and careful, hard learning Chinese:)

Just 40 metres from restored Edo-era post town Magome-Juku, Chaya Hotel has simple traditional rooms with futon bedding and a tatami-mat floor. It has a hot public bath, and Japanese meals are available for a fee. Magome Chaya was wonderfully located right on the Nakasendo in the heart of beautiful Magome. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was delicious, and we were thankful our dietary needs were able to be accommodated for.
