I loved that the cottage was beautifully finished, pet-friendly, and tucked away in a dirt road 5km off the R62, which made it perfect for a quiet getaway. We enjoyed walking around the farm, passing sheep, donkeys, and a horse, and drove down to the Touw River for a stunning sunset walk. Our dog had an amazing time exploring, which made the stay even more special. The host was thoughtful and attentive, making sure every detail was taken care of for a comfortable visit.

The hosts have carried out an excellent restoration on the property and were welcoming and helpful in every respect. Plathuis was formerly a railway station and the history of the line from Ladismith to Touws Rivier was fascinating.

The Guest house is in a rural location and is a typical charming Karoo farmhouse. The property is well-maintained, and I can recommend the property - partially because it is remote with no television, and weak mobile signal. If you want to get away from it all, this is it. They do have internet for the basics like email, but you won’t want to work remotely from here as they have a limit on what their connection can handle. This is not a criticism, as the reality in rural South Africa is that broadband is not very available, capped, and ridiculously expensive. The owners, Eugene and Debi are fabulous hosts and really accommodating. The evening we tried their standard fare burgers, and I tried the Jalapeño burger and my wife the bacon avo burger and both were generous and tasty burgers. We can strongly recommend it as an overnight and if you intend to really get away from technology while having a great experience dished up with loads of hospitality, this is the place to go

What is not to like.In nature, fresh air, no reception.Fresh milk(from the cow!) and beautiful birds. Lovely resident dogs that came for a play date and stayed for the entire afternoon.Peppa and I loved every minute in this haven.

We enjoyed a relaxing time and felt refreshed during stay

Our stay at Aardvark Bioreserve’s Zebra Cottage was truly exceptional. The cottage is beautifully decorated and comfortable, equipped with luxury kitchen appliances, high-quality bed linen, and pure white towels and robes. The pool with a view was a big bonus. The fully equipped kitchen, complete with spices and an ice maker, made meal preparation a delight. We particularly enjoyed the fresh organic produce and free-range eggs provided by the farm. The outdoor fire-heated hot tub was very nice. The cottage is offering stunning unforgettable views of the Milky Way at night. And of course wildlife during the day, with zebras literally metres from your doorstep. We had a wonderful game drive over the impressive huge land, with stunning views. The peace and tranquility of the location, combined with the opportunity to observe zebras and elands from the comfort of the veranda, made our stay unforgettable. The exceptional attention of Annatjie and her staff, along with the contact upfront, made a difference. The hosts were incredibly hospitable, attending to our every need and even surprising us with freshly baked pie, olives, butter, chicken and homemade jam. Their passion for the farm and the Karoo is evident, and they made us feel truly welcome. Annatjie took us to their biological garden to pick their own vegetables, a nice educational experience! In every aspect, a 5/5 experience. We highly recommend Aardvark Bioreserve’s Zebra Cottage to anyone seeking a luxurious and peaceful retreat in the Klein Karoo. We look forward to returning.
