FAQs about hotels in Gdańsk

Charming Architecture And a Breath of History

Called the Amber Capital of the World, Gdańsk is the major shipping seaport and the most beautiful city along the Polish Baltic coast. It has everything from fascinating history and great architecture to a friendly atmosphere!

Also known as Danzig due to its complex past with periods of Polish, German and self-rule, the city is part of the Tricity urban area together with the port city of Gdynia and the popular spa town Sopot. It’s also a birthplace of the world-famous Solidarity movement, which helped to bring down Communist rule in Poland, initiating the end of the Cold War era.

Its charming buildings were rebuilt in a historical style after the city's near-complete destruction during World War II. You can admire the colorful townhouses of the Old Town by boat on the Motlawa River or by strolling down the popular Long Street and Long Market.

While in Gdańsk, make sure you visit the 15th-century St. Mary’s Church, the largest brick church in Europe, and make a wish at the Neptune Fountain, the city’s patron. While in town, try the legendary local Goldwasser liqueur with 22 karat gold flakes!

Whether you reach Gdańsk by train or plane, Booking.com has a variety of accommodations near the Lech Walesa Airport, the picturesque Old Town or the general city center.

It was a very beautiful place with a great mix of old history and modern history. I missed a few of the museums because 3 days was not enough time. I did a day walking between towns by the lakes and through woods - lovely undulating hills not too steep and easy to get to by public transport.

Stunning place, amazing buildings.

Stunning place, amazing buildings. Plenty to do and see and all walkable. I recommend talking train to Sopot for the day (trains are really cheap and easy to use once you have mastered the ticket machines lol!!).

Very beautiful place with baroque and Gothic style buildings. Characteristic of Gdańsk are the colorful houses in the center and around the river. The marina is also very beautiful. Staying in the center you don't need transportation, you go everywhere on foot

Such a beautiful city!

Such a beautiful city! Really old buildings, so much history and uniqueness. Check out one of three carillons on top of a tower, and hear them play some tunes. Very walkable old town, plus Sopot (great beach) and Gdynia (tall ships, oceanarium) accessible by local trains (SKM). Did you know Fahrenheit was born in Gdańsk? There's also a 500 year old astronomical clock in the main Cathedral. A basement restaurant just behind/below the Neptune fountain and Artus Court was incredible, inexpensive, and has its own brewery on site too (Piwnica Rajców). Enjoy.

I’ve probably been to Gdańsk a dozen times, and I still discover something new on each visit. It’s about 20 minutes by taxi from the international airport. I try to stay close to the Old Town so I can be there within minutes. It’s a lovely place for a stroll along the historic streets, to listen to the bells and soak up the city’s old-world charm. There are countless museums both in and just outside the centre. Honestly, they’re all worth a visit — from the Town Hall and St Mary’s Church with its breathtaking viewing platform, to smaller niche museums, and the grand, historically significant ones like the Museum of the Second World War and the European Solidarity Centre. Plan half a day for each of those big hitters, ideally on separate trips to this wonderful city. I’d also recommend a cruise on one of the schooner-style boats. They head to the port, where you can see vast ships on the shipyard slipways and a variety of vessels from around the world loading in Gdańsk’s harbour — a mesmerising sight. If you get chilly, they serve hot mulled wine on board to warm you up in grim weather. Shoppers will find plenty of malls to enjoy. There are loads of restaurants, including Michelin-recognised spots where you can have an unforgettable meal with a bird’s-eye view over Gdańsk by night. Nearby Sopot and Gdynia are just 20–30 minutes away by taxi; each deserves its own write-up. There’s a zoo not far from the city for children, and history lovers can use a car-sharing service to visit Malbork Castle — the largest in Europe — with engaging exhibitions and an amber museum. Come December, the city turns into a Christmas fairy tale. If you’re lucky enough to be in Gdańsk for Christmas, the carved townhouses dusted with snow, the festive spirit, and the big Christmas market by the old city gates will win you over. Gdańsk is a place you’ll want to come back to.

Gdańsk is a beautiful city with many interesting places to visit that are easy to walk to. Plenty of choice for cafes and restaurants centrally. Short trips, for example, Malbork Castle are also easily reached by car. We have visited twice and still not seen everything.

Very near old town, nice modern apartment. Good facilities but could have provided a little more tea and sugar. Nice shower, beds comfy. Very nice to have access to the pool/spa at the hotel which felt a little more luxurious. Front desk welcoming and helpful, booked our taxi for the airport upon return.

Very clean, quiet and orderly. Facilities are kept top notch and people working there are overly welcoming. Every hotel owner (especially those with 4 or 5 star ratings) should visit and see how a 3 star hotel beats them. By far one of the best if not the best hotel I have been to so far.
