The location is beautiful, on a bluff just outside Hokitika. All rooms have a patio facing west and we were able to watch a lovely sunset. The rooms themselves are spacious and comfortable. The restaurant food was delicious and the staff were very friendly.

Best part is the beach, driftwood is amazing. It's often wet so take suitable clothing and maybe gumboots. Stumpers is a great place to eat . Shops don't seem to be open on a Sunday which was disappointing.

We stayed in Chief Henshaw 3 bdrm apartment.

We stayed in Chief Henshaw 3 bdrm apartment. There was 5 of us so little compact! Although it was for 1 night only so suited our needs. The place is beautifully appointed and ideally located within walking distance of good eating and the beach.

Loved the beach, the scenery around, the lakes and waterfalls being close. Lots to do. Loved the galleries too. Very friendly people. Please reopen the museum. It was a great place to visit even if it was raining at times.

Lovely sitting at the beach bar on sun set, cold beer watching the rabbits graze. Had a nice dinner and stay at Stumpers. Early morning rise and breakfast at a cafe, stroll around town then saw the Kiwis and fed the eels at the National Kiwi Centre. Beautiful little town

Lovely place to visit. Central for west coast adventures. We took day trips from our accomodation to things like Punakaiki and Greymouth. Downside we found not many food options to choose from in town itself and gas prices were fairly high.

We really like this hotel. It was one of our favourite on our holiday. The owner met us, as we arrived quite late, and gave all the information to my friend, whilst I parked the car. We booked the twin room, which is down a corridor (lovely and warm thanks to heaters), and it's a good space. Got a sink in the room (weirdly low down) but very useful when you haven't got an ensuite. Had a TV, a table and stools to sit on. The kitchen area was small, cute and clean. The showers/toilets were again clean and well kept.

For a multiple unit holiday home style property, the apartment was surprisingly spacious and comfortable, more akin to an apartment AirBnB. We appreciated the 3 bedrooms, which was a nice change from the 2 bed places we'd been staying on the rest of our tour, for about the same price. (However this might be just because Hokitika is less expensive). Our place had a great view off the veranda, very fast internet, and on the whole was a very relaxing place to be. We wished we'd stayed longer (we were just there one night).

Fantastic location, withing walking distance to the main street and local restaurants and the beach. Although a little dated, the motel was very clean, warm and tidy and was well equipped with everything you need to enjoy your stay. The kitchen was well set up. The staff came round daily to empty the rubbish bins, supply fresh towels and make the bed - this was lovely and, in my experience, not always provided these days in other motels and hotels! Car parking on site was convenient for loading and unloading.
