Great hostel with lovely staff, close to the rainforest discovery center and only a 20 minute walk from the orangutans and sunbears! Breakfast was great, staff were really helpful, especially Madeline! Would definitely recommend this place.

staff were really friendly & great to chat to, food was excellent- good variety to satisfy all dietary preferences (tasty cocktails too!) location,scenery, building structures & grounds were really well designed. Can see a lot of wildlife around. Bungalows we’re clean, comfortable & constructed from local natural materials. LOVE THE OUTDOOR SHOWER!!!! Thanks to Ju, Wan & Ein for a really enjoyable stay - sorry for spelling ur names wrong 😂 Also, thanks to Steve, the dog! He’s just the best! 😍 Hope to see u all again ☺️🥰

Beautiful place to stay, rooms were clean and spacious. The facilities surrounding were stunning, there was a board walk over a lake with beautiful gardens. We even saw an orangutan one afternoon above the lake. Very good for siting and watching birds, even saw a rhinociros hornbill. Pool area was delightful. Easy walk to the orangutan and sun bear sanctuary. All round highly highly recommend.

Hotel was near the airport, we needed to stay in an area near the airport and close to the Sepilok Sanctuary, it was perfect for a night and the restaurant across the street was also very nice and clean.

Most people go there to visit the orangutans sanctuary. It is excellent . Obviously they cannot guarantee animals will come to feeding platform, but when they do, you could spend a long time simply watching them.

Sepilok was excellent and safe.

Sepilok was excellent and safe. Small view of local life and excellent option to walk to each destination there from the resort we picked. Great way to recover from jet lag and we the jungle before we went out on the Kinabatangan river. Ate at the resorts and the orangutan center was fun outside of just the feeding as the apes stuck around on the railings!! Then the jungle night was was very fun with excellent guides who were very passionate finding us several of the nocturnal monkeys.

Only a 20 minute ride from Sandakan Airport so it’s...

Only a 20 minute ride from Sandakan Airport so it’s worthwhile checking out for the day. There is only about 1 whole days worth of activities in the area I.e. the Orangutan Center, the Sun Bear center and then the rainforest discovery Center. I probably wouldn’t recommend more than 1 day in this area unless you want to do some of the extensive forest and mangrove walls that are at the rainforest discovery Center - but they’re more for the dry season rather than the rainy season. I strongly do NOT recommend the probiscus sanctuary back in Sandakan as it’s more of a single species zoo only - it’s much better to get out to the nearby Kandabangan River Area

The only reason to stay a night is to ensure you get to the...

The only reason to stay a night is to ensure you get to the Orang Utan reserve just after 9am (let the initial queue go down) to watch the 10am feeding. Otherwise, stay elsewhere and drive to the reserve/get a Grab/bus it, and watch the 3pm feed, and then go back to your hotel.

I enjoyed Sepilok very much!

I enjoyed Sepilok very much! I was amazed by the facilities at the RDC, the orangutan, and the sun bear reserve. It is friendly for both children and the elderly. The staff are very friendly. My friend and I really enjoyed ourselves, especially during the night safari. Our rangers did their best to help us spot the animals. I will definitely recommend that my friends visit Sepilok—what a gem in Malaysia!

Sepilok is a must if in Borneo.

Sepilok is a must if in Borneo. The Rainforest Discovery centre is incredible, especially the night walk, as is the Orangutan rehabilitation centre and the Kinabatangan River half-day cruise. There’s also a Sun bear sanctuary, which we are hoping to visit.

Great hotel in the heart of the jungle. Also very close to both the sun bear and orangutan sanctuary (within walking distance) which is a big plus. Staff were friendly and attentive always making us feel welcome. Food was good quality given where we were staying. Great priced rooms for the location and nearby sights.

I am satisfied as a birder as in the yard of this hotel I saw black and red broadbill, blue throated bee eater, baya weaver and even a Malayan night heron, a rare bird which I think might still stay in the yard. The location is also good, maybe the nearest hotel to the Rainforest Discovery Center.
