I was supposed to stay for a couple of days and ended up staying for a couple of weeks. From the beginning Geovanny, Elvira and Oscar gave me a warm and welcoming feeling. They clean the bath- and washrooms on a daily basis, and while they are at it they also make your bed. There is a beautiful, big kitchen, provided with all necessary utensils (even a blender!), some herbs, coffee and tea. One of my favourite things during my stay was cooking with a bunch of other people from the hostel, like a little family. There are activities like movie night, making tacos and eating marshmallows at the fire. It is also the perfect locations for digital nomads like myself. The vibe is chill and WiFi works perfectly. You can even take you computer up to the terrace and enjoy the view of the city. I found it really hard San Cristobál because the location has so much to offer, but especially because La Abuelita felt a little bit like coming home!

The kitchen is so well equiped and inviting to do your cooking, there is coffee and cookies and tea always available and a big fridge to store your stuff and spices you can use while preparing some food and the kitchen is super spacious and always clean! The hostal is a quiet heaven in a lovely side street of the more busy walking area. Staying in this hostel made my time in San Cristobal de las Casas a very memorable one. It was like being part of the family not a guest in a hostal. Thanks so much. Hope to visit again one day.

It’s a very personal and chilled vibe because there are only three double rooms, so you’re not more than 6 people + Fernando who takes great care of his guests. He’s very helpful and attentive and checks in what kind of bread and drink you prefer for breakfast (it’s generally fruits, sweet or salty bread and coffee - not much but a great start into the day). He lives underneath the house and sometimes friends come over, so again, very friendly atmosphere and more a co-living than a hostel!
