Suihoen was the pinnacle of our honeymoon. the staff were absolutely lovely and attentive. They added so many small touches to our stay and the food was absolutely sublime! if we could give them 100/10 we would. it was the absolute highlight of our entire Japan trip and we will definitely be back!

A really charming location, it is 10 stories but never feels overwhelming. Lovely view and garden. Efficient station shuttle. As someone else said, it could be from a Wes Anderson movie or a novel. Kaiseki dinner and breakfast are top notch. Onsen facilities are slightly past their prime but do the job, the open air baths are really special. Room in the annex was huge and had a great private bath. I asked the hotel to recommend a nice hike and they suggested one. Reception was really helpful after I sprained my ankle.

Aki is a very kind and helpful host :) Love the traditional Japanese house . It is so beautiful surrounding the trees and farm . And you can see the train outside the house and shrine next to the house.It is very calm and relaxing staying this place !The dinner and breakfast is amazing and delicious! I had an amazing time staying here, gero Onsen was just a short train ride away and the owners picked me up and dropped me off at the station every time I got a train! The house itself was lovely aswell old Japanese style futon, nice wooden Japanese decor and a river running just one step from your private door to the garden! the location is abit remote but with trains you can get to Takayama and gero very easily and the train ride is scenic as hell. I had a great time staying here :) .

Quick look: The room was really nice and big, the food was great, and the staff was so nice. The outdoor hot spring was my favorite. It was like a slice of nature to enjoy while you soaked. I found the best hours to go were just before 4pm and in the morning after breakfast. There weren't a lot of people then. My room had a great view of the river and when I went to eat, the Kansui restaurant had a fantastic view of the outside garden (which you can also walk around in). I really liked that I could hear the river from my room. I stayed for two nights. The food was different both evenings and both mornings but all delicious. The staff that served it took care of everything like turning on the burners and serving you rice and tea. It really allowed you to focus on eating and enjoying the scenery. It's a lot of food, but all healthy and worth trying, especially if you're new to Japan. I think the staff spoke English too, if you need the English support. All around, it was a really great place. Amazing value and just so peaceful.

The staff were very helpful. The hotel was very close to the station and there was a frequent free shuttle to the station. It was a short walk to the main onsen town as well. There were three hot spring baths at the facility including an open air bath. The room was very spacious. The breakfast buffet had a large mix of western and japanese foods.

Breakfast and Dinner that in included in the room package is excellent。 There was plently of food every meal. It was definitely a eye opener for traditional Japanese food. We travelled with 3 young kids and they provided diaper bins, kids shower gel, toothpaste, kids yukata. I am surprised by how kids friendly the resort are.
