Nice hotel at the foothills of Mt. Aso. It is clean, staff is kind and attentive. We asked them if we can leave the luggage at the hotel before the check-in time and they stored it for us and brought to the room. We appreciate that we got a Japanese style room which was very nice and comfortable. The onsen and sauna were great. Excellent breakfast and dinner, a lot of choices.

I really enjoyed my stay, it was a completely different experience than other places I've stayed in Japan. The area has a slightly spooky, Alabama-esque feel. Maybe it was becouse of the goat outside my window, maybe the American-style buildings, or maybe, aside from meeting the lovely owners once at check-in, I didn't see a single person during my one-night stay. The room was clean, the bed very comfortable, and the air conditioning worked flawlessly (as did the Wi-Fi) a big plus for the fridge in the room (there are no shops at the area, I recommend buying some sandwiches etc earlier). It was the cheapest option I could find in the area, a bit pricey for the standard, but considering the spooky vibe (which I liked), I can't really complain. My destination was the Kamishikimi Kumanoimasu Shrine, and it was a 30-minute walk. It's about an hour's walk from the train station. It's also a 15-minute walk from the coolest old-school samurai-style restaurant I've ever been to.

This is a beautiful traditional (restored) Japanese house. Exceptionally spacious and comfortable for two people. The balcony at first floor and patio area with sun loungers to the rear were nice for relaxing at breakfast time and in the afternoon sun after a day out to Mount Aso. The highlight however was the optional barbecue evening meal in the impressive annexe. The host couple were incredibly kind and helpful and the meal was out of this world. The annexe building also has some impressive TV/audio facilities. It was a very memorable stay and we would thoroughly recommend staying here.

Everything was perfection - starting from my arrival, public bathhouse experience, the cozy room, delicious dinner and breakfast and very kind staff members. The view of Mt. Aso from the third floor lookout and the footbath area is impeccable. Also, much special thanks to Mr. Isao Tsugayasu, who was extremely helpful and kind to us throughout the stay! Very helpful host! Due to super heavy rain, we needed to change our plan of next spot. The host sent us several suggestions even we have already left! Dinner portion is more than enough. A really tasteful and satisfying dinner! And the house itself is perfect for family especially having kids. Lots of space for kids burning their energy! Perfect!
