As someone with a deep love for history, I chose this boutique hotel because of its beautifully preserved heritage, and it did not disappoint. Every corner of the building speaks of its past, from the original "garigor" staircase to the intricate details that have been carefully restored. The atmosphere is steeped in character, yet nothing feels outdated—there is a seamless blend of past and present, where modern comforts enhance rather than overshadow the building’s soul. I felt as though I was living in history, not merely observing it, and that is what made my stay truly special. Comfort is never compromised in this historic setting. While I have stayed in old properties before, they often come with practical challenges, but Howard House Hotel is designed with every convenience in mind. The spacious lift was a wonderful surprise, making access to all levels effortless, allowing me to enjoy every part of the hotel without a second thought. My room was luxurious yet understated, offering everything one would expect from a five-star hotel, from plush bedding to thoughtful touches like a fully stocked mini-bar and a coffee machine. The blend of historic charm with modern luxury is what sets this place apart—nothing felt overly polished or sterile, yet everything was elegant and immaculately kept. The highlight of my stay, however, was the time I spent on the upper terrace, where I lost myself in the spectacular 360-degree views. I watched the sunset from this perfect vantage point, completely mesmerised by the changing colours of the sky and the timeless beauty of the city beyond. It was a moment of peace and reflection, where I could take in the landscape as so many before me must have done over the last century and a half. This is a hotel that doesn’t just offer comfort—it offers a deep sense of place, of continuity, and of connection to the past.

The staff is very nice and helpful. The hotel is new and clean. The breakfast was truly delicious 😋 The only thing we didn't like was that it was difficult to locate the entrance. Taxi drivers were constantly getting lost. On our way to the airport, 2 drivers gave up, and only the third one arrived.

It's a room with en suite and a tiny breakfast room and a receptionist who is there until 3pm daily. No bell hop, room service, concierge desk, bar or the trappings of a hotel. And it's brilliant. Our room was spacious and surprisingly luxe for the money. Compact but very comprehensive kitchenette (microwave, two induction rings, fridge, cutlery and crockery for two, coffee machine). Huge and very comfortable bed. Efficient air con which was needed as it was hot and humid outside. Tiles everywhere. Scrupulously clean. We also had a 'harem balcony' with a coffee table and a couple of tub chairs. ChromeCast on the large TV. Great position in Sliema just up the hill from the ferry and an easy hop to St Julien's. We didn't have breakfast included so only had it one day and it was a decent enough.

Great apartments in an awesome location. The apartments look brand new, furnished with everything you need. Very comfortable even to accommodate 4 people. The apartments were also very clean and the staff made sure to tend to all our needs. The staff was super friendly and especially Monica helped us a lot and ensured we had a great stay! I completely recommend this place. When I return to Malta I know where I wanna stay.

This hotel ranks as one of the best hotels we’ve ever stayed across the world. From the check-in with complimentary Prosecco right through to the check-out. The service from the staff, the standard of our Duplex Suite and the quality littles extras makes this hotel exceptional. Utterly fantastic in all respects.

This was an exceptional hotel with the friendliest staff. The hotel was beautiful, especially the bifora windows. The small but impactful gestures were appreciated like the chocolates left in our room each day. The staff always greeted us with a smile. The food was just as good as everything else. The experience of staying here felt bespoke and was very peaceful given its location in the silent city of Mdina. Highly recommended.

The staff were excellent: friendly, professional and attentive. This is the only hotel within the city walls of Mdina - so the location was perfect. We stayed for three nights - and dined at Medina, Trattoria AD1530 and Mondion (for the best tasting menu ever!!). These restaurants are all in Mdina and linked with the hotel, so booking was easy.

Everything is excellent in this hotel - actually beyond excellent! It is the second time I have stayed here and I will reiterate what I said in last year's review. The hotel's biggest asset is its very attentive and charming staff - be it housekeeping, restauration or reception! That besides the historical location and the grandeur and classical beauty of the hotel itself make for an excellent quite and stressless getaway on an otherwise very busy and noisy island :-). We also adored the view over the valley from our room - Stunning!!
